BABY (2006)

BABY continues O’Connor’s deep immersion into the poetics of dance exploding the metaphor of “time passing” into a dynamic, contemporary work of art. Using choreography to process information, O’Connor reveals his inimitable and penetrating aesthetic. The work is performed by his company of five dancers and continues his career-long collaborations with lighting designer Brian MacDevitt and composer James Baker. BABY premiered at Dance Theater Workshop in New York City in March 2006. (65 minutes)

BABY is made possible with generous support provided by The Rockefeller Foundation/MAP Fund, the National Endowment for the Arts, Altria Group, Inc., Bossak/Heilbron Charitable Foundation, and with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. BABY has been commissioned by the Creative Residency Program of Dance Theater Workshop with support from the Ford Foundation, the Jerome Robbins Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. BABY was created during a residency at the Baryshnikov Dance Foundation, made possible by a gift from James Duffy in memory of Martha Duffy; and a residency at Florida State University's Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography.
